Workers Building Chiller Fan Coil System Design, Dhahran
A workers' accommodation building in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, a 1,715 m² single-floor plan serving 50 occupants, was analysed by Fluxiss using Carrier HAP with a 2-Pipe Fan Coil terminal unit system. The design location in the Jubail area brings punishing summer conditions, with peak cooling governed by September 15:00 outdoor air at 42.8°C DB / 21.1°C WB and peak zone cooling at October 15:00.
The Analysis
- Carrier HAP load model with 2-Pipe Fan Coil (2P-FC) terminal unit system
- Peak cooling identified at September 15:00; peak zone cooling at October 15:00
- Ventilation outdoor air sized per ASHRAE 62.1 at 2.5 L/s per person plus 0.30 L/s per m²
Key Results
- Total coil cooling load at September peak: 142.9 kW, of which 142.3 kW sensible
- Heating load: 26.1 kW at the design heating day (7.2°C outdoor air)
- Supply airflow: 11,616 L/s
- Outdoor air ventilation: 640 L/s
- Chilled water coil sized at 6.16 L/s flow at a 5.6°K rise
The load analysis confirmed a chiller-based 2-pipe fan coil system as the appropriate solution for this climatic zone, and gave the client documented, zone-level numbers to procure against.
