Fluxiss Delivers Everton Stadium Tank Riser Package

Fluxiss has completed the pipe stress, support design and seismic qualification package for the cold-water tank riser system at Everton FC’s new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock. The scope covered the full riser from tank connection through to the distribution manifold at concourse level, including the spring supports and guide arrangement that accommodate thermal growth while resisting seismic load.

The engineering challenge was a familiar one for stadium and arena scopes: a tall, slender riser in a constrained shaft, with limited lateral restraint available from the structure and a strict deflection limit at the tank nozzle. We modelled the system in CAESAR II, ran sustained, expansion and occasional load cases to ASME B31.3, and iterated the guide spacing and spring selection until nozzle loads, stress ratios and support reactions were all within allowable.

Pipe stress, support design and seismic qualification for the cold-water tank riser system at Everton’s new stadium - delivered to B31.3 and ASCE 7 within a tight construction sequence.

Seismic qualification followed ASCE 7, with a response-spectrum analysis capturing the first three modes of the riser and translating the resulting anchor movements into support loads. Where the structure could not take the lateral load, we worked with the structural team to introduce a dedicated seismic brace frame at the mid-height guide level.

“Stadium risers are unforgiving - the structure is light, the loads are dynamic, and the construction sequence rarely matches the design assumptions,” said M Bilal, Principal Analyst. “We delivered marked-up isometrics, a spring support schedule and a seismic load summary that the contractor could build to without re-engineering on site.”

The package was issued for construction on schedule, with fabrication and installation proceeding through the stadium fit-out phase. Fluxiss provided RFI support through installation and attended the hydrotest to confirm the as-built arrangement matched the analysed model.
